Brilliant commentary by Bob Herbert.

A recent front-page article in The Los Angeles Times showed that teenagers are faring poorly in a tight job market because of the fierce competition they’re getting from older workers and immigrants for entry-level positions.” (Chattanooga Times, 5/8/05, pg. B6.)

Yes, and I suppose the “fierce competition” has nothing to do with the fact that most kids today are slackers.

Our office often gets stuck supervising the "community service" hours required by the juvenile detention judge for misbehaving teens in our area. Barring the fact that these teens are "troubled", they have no respect, no discipline, and no work ethic.

We've had kids who were 17 and couldn't file anything alphabetically by street address. What a waste!
