The logical consequence of "being Green" run amok.

" A British woman who had an abortion 10 years ago and was later sterilized did so because she believes pregnancy is bad for the environment, the London Daily Mail reported Sunday.

Toni Vernelli, 35, hopes her actions would ensure her carbon footprint would be kept to a minimum, the Mail reported. The environmental advocate also sees having children as an egotistical act.

"Having children is selfish. It's all about maintaining your genetic line at the expense of the planet," Vernelli told the Mail, adding she believes bringing new life into the world only adds to the problem."

But such an attitude is utterly unnecessary.

"The Lord created the heavens.

He is the God who formed the earth and made it.

He did not want it to be empty,

but he wanted life on the earth."

Isaiah 45:18, NCV

Chesterton Thursdays, V.

"...it would certainly infuriate me, to open a book expecting to find a cosy, kindly, human story about a murdered man found in a cupboard, and find instead a lot of dull, bad philosophy about the upward progress and the purer morality.

I would rather read any detective book than that book.

I would rather spend my time in finding out why a dead man was dead than in slowly comprehending why a certain philosopher had never been alive."

Chesterton, The Common Man.

Co-op America's National "Green Pages."

Found the National Green Pages site here.

Money quote?

"The nation's only directory of screened and approved green businesses."

(Top of browser)

But one certainly wonders: Who screens the screeners? Who approves the approvers?

Monty Python: Airplane Pilots.

Reminds me a little of that "Far-side" strip. You know? The one where the pilots say "we're going to have some turbulence."

A Tribute to Alice, of 10,000 Monkeys and a Camera.

Whatever else may be said about Alice, this much is true. When I wrote a post which could have been construed to mean that I, or someone I know, might have been sick; Alice, acting quite Christ-like in her concern for me, responded with kindness.

I attempted two or three times to write a tribute to Alice. Each time I failed miserably. As a result, I shall simply post my original letter to her, adding this comment only.

The genuine concern Alice showed for me, was indeed Christ-like. For that kindness, these few, insignificant words of mine are indeed inadequate to express the honor that is due.

"Alice,

I just wanted to thank you for the kind words you wrote on my blog. I realized after your comment was posted that what I had written might possibly be construed to imply that I, or someone in my family, was experiencing problems with cancer. To my knowledge this is not so.

But your graciousness in saying what you did--and this, even though we seldom agree on many topics--was a beautiful illustration of how one would act; that is, how one would act if one were a Christian. It has inspired me so very much that I intend to make it the topic of a post. (To which statement I must append the following thoughts. First, it may seem but a slight honor to be the inspiration for a post. In reality, I mean it as an honor and tribute to you for your kindness. Second, when I say that it has inspired me, I assure you, I am not speaking rhetorically.)

Anyhow, the purpose of this correspondence was to convey my gratitude. This done, I now retire.

With Sincerity,
I bid you
Adieu.

Carl"

What is a "dirty homophobic schoolchild?" I guess my kids are.

At least, according to these people they are. But I prefer to think of them just as I think of homosexuals: they are made in the image of God. I prefer to think of my kids just as God thinks of all people; homosexual or otherwise, viz., "male and female." In short, I prefer to think of them just as God in his love-letter to humanity chooses to think of them: sinners in need of a Saviour.

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

(Romans 5:8.)

But "dirty" or "homo-phobic?" Nope. That ain't them, and it ain't me either. I certainly hope I've taught them the scriptures better than that.

Can someone please explain why my tax dollars are helping pay for the 3-million dollars promised by the City of Chattanooga to the McKamey Animal Center?

Seriously. And I don't even have an animal.

"Of the $5.6 million, the city has pledged $3 million – a $1 million land donation of 10 acres on the former DuPont property off Access Road and $2 million in matching funds."

Quote of the Day from Chattablogs: 11/08/07.

"...today's paper has a quote from Ron saying that it is his lifelong goal to be the number three city in the state. Leaving aside the grammatical issues, I think we really must stop to ponder a leader of a city that claims a lifelong aspiration to THIRD PLACE!"

I ain't got a dog in the fight, but that quote is freakin' hilarious!

Chesterton Thursdays, IV.

"It is extremely probable that we have overlooked some whole aspect of the question, if something set up by human beings like ourselves seems to be entirely meaningless and mysterious."

BLASPHEMY!

"While I was in France during the War our boys used to call the United States "God's country". Let us make it and keep it "God's country"."

(Source.)

Well it is blasphemy in our society...depending on who you talk to, anyways.

UPDATE:

(Found one more...)

"For that we can be thankful to the God who watches over America."

(IBID; HT me*.)

*This is only a joke. For although my eyes did discover the quote cited, I do not seriously intend to tip the hat in my direction.

Obama-1; Respect for America-0.

There's a reason this man doesn't respect our flag; much less, I believe, our country. Any guesses what it is?
